The Northcliff Rotary Club today
Service Above Self Rotary is an international club for professionals who want to serve their community, and Northcliff has definitely lived up to this ideal. The club has received a number of Rotary awards for their projects and, in return, has given out many awards to worthy recipients in the wider community. The track record of the Northcliff Club is certainly impressive which boils down to the quality of its members. The club has produced four district governors, and its Rotarians include world-class doctors, lawyers, chemists, bank managers, chief executive officers, managing directors and the like. But this is not the time to rest on one's laurels. There is still much work to be done and renewal is at the heart of the Rotary system. Each year, all the officials must change and members are encouraged to change portfolios every two years, to keep things fresh - Rotary is always moving forward. For those who are already part of the organisation, Rotary is considered a well-kept secret - an essential ingredient to having a truly fulfilling personal and professional identity. Apart from the good work undertaken by Rotary Clubs, the club environment offers outstanding potential for mentoring, networking and friendship with exceptional people. After all, the weekly meetings provide an excellent way to spend quality time with passionate people who are committed to developing the future leaders of South Africa. In many ways, the beauty of Rotary is that one has to look away from yourself by engaging with the local community and beyond. It is an honour to be associated with an organisation with this kind of credibility and integrity. Rotary enjoys this enviable reputation because it delivers results, and the Rotary Club of Northcliff looks forward to many more years of service. District 9400 The Northcliff Rotary Club, is one of the Rotary Clubs, which make up District 9400. The Head of District 9400 is District Governor (DG), Anton Meerkotter (2011/2012). There are Assistant District Governors ((ADG) reporting to the DG. Each ADG is responsible for approx 4 Clubs. Our AG is Steve Margo. The District represents some 1000 Rotarians. (For more info See our District 9400) Activities But being a Rotarian isn't all work and no play. Members take every opportunity to relax and enjoy themselves at various Rotary gettogethers. That's why, over the years members have grown into a tight-knit family thanks to after-meeting drinks, Rotary braais, pub evenings, dinner- and ad-hoc parties - often to welcome a visiting Rotarian from another club. As fun as socialising can be, social activities do extend beyond eating and drinking. Cultural outings such as theatre evenings, the Probus Club where retired members meet once a month for lunch and a talk from a guest speaker, are all on the calendar. |
